Leila Neimane

I am a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Latvia, Faculty of Law, conducting my research “Effective Maritime Spatial Planning Regulation Framework and Implementation Challenges and Best Practice Examples for the Context of the Baltic Sea.” I defended my thesis in 2019, entitled “Current Issues of Legislation of Environmental Impact Assessment” at the University of Latvia, Faculty of Law. Between 2014 and 2015, I was a visiting fellow at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Between 2015 and 2017, I was the Erasmus Mundus fellow at the University of Pretoria and conducted my research on the comparison of the legal framework of environmental impact assessment in the Baltic States, Switzerland and South Africa. I have also been involved with the World Resources Institute as the National Researcher for Latvia in the framework of the Environmental Democracy (Performance) Index project. My principal academic interests are environmental rights, environmental democracy, environmental justice, environmental impact assessment, regional development, climate change, maritime spatial planning and blue economy.
